Stop #5 of the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series opened up to a tough field of SoCal pool players, with Rakesh Bunga (634) taking down his second tournament win this season! Rakesh defeated Melissa Helland (658) hill-hill in a single race final, getting one game on the wire. The field featured 2 players in the 700s and 12 in the 600s. The fields are becoming stronger and stronger every month!
Rakesh started his run through the field against Ted Windle (359), followed by a win against Johann Uriarte (557). He then came with TWO close hill-hill wins over Nicaragua’s Jose G. Centeno (608) and Chris Wedekind (638), before defeating newcomer Marshall Jung (699) in a close match to capture the hot seat.
Melissa’s impressive route to the final started with a win against James Harris (599) before taking a tough loss to Marshall in the second round. Not to be denied the final, Melissa went on a great run and tore through the field, winning SEVEN consecutive matches: Chris Santana (574), Chaokun Li (599), Jose G. Centeno (608), Terrence Lee (575), Beau Runningen (739), Chris Wedekind (638), and finally a rematch against Marshall Jung (699) to meet Rakesh in the final. This was a repeat single race final from Stop #3, and another win for Rakesh amidst a heavy field!
Several new players have joined the series: Joe Hanink, Marshall Jung, Jose G. Centeno, Luis Garcia, and Tyler Buffington.
Stop #6 is Sunday June 4th, and will go on sale online May 14th at 9am PST. Note that entries will be sold online only.
