Shawn Putnam defeated Sy Brown in the second set of the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour 8-Ball event at Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe in Canton, OH this weekend.
Putnam made his way undefeated through the field of 64 players, including a 7-5 win over Shane Morrow for the hot-seat. After Morrow lost to Sy Brown on the one-loss side, the final match would be contested between Brown and Putnam.
Brown won the first set of the double elimination finals 7-6, but as other players have discovered in the past, it is easier to beat Shawn Putnam one set in the finals than two. Putnam took control of the second set and never looked back in route to a 5-2 victory.
Putnam collected $1300 for the win, while Brown settled for $850 for second. Brown and Eddie Willis, owner of E and A Billiards, filled out the top four spots.
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Northfield Billiards in Northfield, Ohio next weekend for a $1000 added 9-ball event.
