Shawn Putnam has bounced back from the one-loss side and captured his second straight UPA Pro Tour Event at the 2005 Brunswick Pro Players Championship.
Putnam scored wins over Troy Frank, Jeremy Jones and Joey Korsiak before falling short by one game for the hot-seat against Italian Fabio Petroni. Putnam scored a 10-7 win over Jones on the left side of the board to earn the rematch against Petroni in the finals.
Petroni had definitely set himself up as the man to beat in this one with wins over Mike Davis, Larry Nevel, Tony Crosby, Dennis Hatch and Gabe Owen before his hill-hill win over Putnam for the hot-seat. Petroni took an early 2-0 lead in the final set, but Putnam came back to tie the score at 4 each. The players split the next two games for a 5-5 tie, but Putnam won the next three to take an 8-5 lead. Petroni pulled back within two at 8-6, but Putnam won the last two games for the 10-6 victory.
Putnam earned $10,000 for the win, while Petroni settled for $5,600, Jones and Charlie Bryant filled out the top four spots.
