While the Viking Cue National Championship at Northfield Billiards in Northfield Ohio doesn't get underway until Wednesday, there was still a large field for the $1000 added mini-tournament on Tuesday. A total of 75 players paid their entry and were joined by 5 female and junior players taking advantage of the free entry.
The field was full of top talent who had arrived early for the National Championship and the brackets had names like Larry Nevel, BJ Ussery, Andy Scott, Danny Medina, Ryan McCreesh, Jose Parica, Grady Mathews, Ron Park, Dee Adkins, Shane McMinn and Rachael Abbink. In the end, this tournament went like so many other Viking events, with Shawn Putnam running through the brackets undefeated for the win.
Putnam defeated Will Slone 6-2 in the finals for the victory and an $800 payday. Slone settled for $500. Marty Lawson and Andy Scott ended up tied for third.
The main event will get started on Wednesday evening and we will have complete brackets coverage all week long. The players meeting is not until 4PM on Wednesday and entries will be accepted until that time. Entry fee for the event is $30 for Viking Tour members, $65 for members of other regional tours and $145 for other players.
