Just as he has dominated the last few years on the Viking Tour, Shawn Putnam dominated the field to win the first stop on the new season at Cornfed Red's Billiard Cafe in Columbus, OH.
Putnam cruised to the hot seat match with a combined record of 35-10 where he then knocked Fred Lane to the one-loss side 7-1. After Lane dispatched Chris Szuter 7-5 on the one-loss side, it was Lane and Putnam again but Lane would have to beat Putnam twice. Lane was able to get as close as anyone else had all weekend and that wasn't very close as Putnam raced to an early 4-1 lead and held on for the 7-4 win in the finals.
The win was worth $1250 for Putnam. Szuter and Willie Oney filled out the top four spots. It was Putnam's second Viking Tour win in a row as he won the last Viking event he played in last December.
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Fiddlestix Billiard Café in Canton, OH next weekend.
