The pool world has lost another friend with the passing of Al Conte on Monday the 20th.
We spoke to Al's good friend Mike Zuglan and he had the following to say...
"Al was a great friend. He had just turned 79 and had been married to his wife Lois for 58 year. They have eight children together, including Victor Conte who is the owner of Hippos House of Billiards in Utica, NY.
Al was a dear friend for over 30 years. For the 20 years that I owned my billiard room, Al was the only one to service, move and recover my tables. He was, in mine and many others minds, the best in the business. When he came to the room, he would always do all the little extra things needed to make sure the tables played the best they could. He was so good that even Brunswick would ask his opinion on how to better their equipment. Al would even let you pay him later if you just asked. He knew the nature of our business and was always willing to help out if he could. Al was a bear of a man and was still working every day up until his passing."
