Day seven of the Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth in Tirana, Albania, started with two rounds of team matches. They resulted in the fact that Poland and Germany will play each other in both divisions, Under 17 and Under 19.
Germany is the defending Champion in both divisions. In the Under 17’s, Poland was the opponent in last year’s final match. The fact that these two now meet in the semi-finals already this year is the „fault“ from the German team. They lost their match in the winner’s qualification round to team Russia and so they had to take the detour over the loser’s side and were drawn in the single elimination stage. While team Poland had a walk-over since team Albania withdrew last minute, team Germany today faced team The Netherlands. That match turned out to become a debacle for the Dutch. Luca Menn (GER) took down Mitchel Knuever (NED) 6:0 in 10-ball while Leon Kohl (GER) destroyed Megan Rademakers (NED) 7:1 in 9-ball. At that time, Quinten Pongers (NED) was leading 3:1 over Pete Herman (GER) but since the score was already 2:0 in favor of team Germany, the encounter was decided and over. The other semifinal in the Under 17’s will be played tomorrow between team Russia and team Denmark. The Russians eliminated team North Cyprus 2:0 while Denmark won the Scandinavian battle with their neighbors Norway 2:0.
In the Under 19’s, Germany pipped team Czech Republic 2:0. The only clear result brought the match victory for Germany. Patrick Hofmann (GER), two-time Champion this week already, won clearly with 7:3 in 10-ball over Petr Brancusky (CZE). Tayfun Teber (GER) managed to triumph 7:6 in 8-ball over Calvin Washburn (CZE). At that point in time, Kevin Schiller (GER) was leading 7:6 over Ladislav Hajsman (CZE) in a race to eight in 9-ball. Germany’s opponent in the semifinal tomorrow will again be team Poland who outplayed Austria 2:0 today. The other semifinal in the Under 19’s will be played between The Netherlands and Russia. While the Dutch creamed North Cyprus 2:0, the Russians got the better of Norway with the same result.
The Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth will continue today with 9-ball matches in the individuals.
