Day four at the World Ten Ball Championship is in full swing and we have already narrowed the field from sixty four players to just forty eight.
Early matches today saw the elimination of crowd favorite Jasmin Ouschan. Ouschan's tournament came down to a missed cut on the 5-ball against Filipino Demosthenes Pupul. Pupul almost jumped out of his chair when the 5-ball rattled the pocket, but quickly went to the table and ended the suspense as he ran out the remaining balls for the 9-8 win. Pulul, known as "Plong Plong" in the Philippines, will face Japan's Kazua Furuta in the round of thirty two.
Furuta looked to be in trouble early in his match against German Oliver Ortmann. Ortmann held a 6-2 lead, but was unable to stop Furuta from winning seven straight games for the 9-6 win.
The other female competitor in the final sixty four was former Women's World Champion Shin-Mei Liu. Liu did not fare well against Canadian Tyler Edey. Edey took control of the match at 2-1 and raced to a 7-1 lead and a 9-3 victory. Edey will face Haitao Liu from China on Friday.
A match that fans expected to be exciting turned out to be another dominating win for American Shane Van Boening. Van Boening made quick work of Malta's Tony Drago and will face fellow American Shaun Wilkie in the next round.
Reigning World 9-Ball Champion Daryl Peach made quick work of Filipino Arnel Bautista 9-4. Peach will face #1 ranked European player Mark Gray in the round of thirty two. Gray eliminated American Corey Deuel and his match with Peach is expected to be a good one.
Marquee matches still scheduled for Thursday include Sandor Tot vs Jeffrey De Luna, Hui-chan Lu vs Jung-Lin Chan, Charlie Williams vs Ernesto Dominguez, Niels Feijen vs Ricky Yang and Jerico Banares vs Hung-Hsiang Wang.
