As day five of the 30th Annual US Open 9-Ball Championships draws to a close, the winners side is now down to eight players on the winners side. Winners side matches at 3pm on Saturday will be Nick van den Berg vs Jose Parica, Charlie Williams vs Sylver Ochoa, Tang Hoa vs Andreas Roshkowski and Alex Pagulayan vs Troy Frank.
Parica scored a big win on Friday with his 11-9 victory over Efren Reyes. Alex Pagulayan also scored an 11-9 win over Francisco Bustamante.
Players making their way through the one-loss side include Shane Van Boening who scored wins over Ivica Putnik, Fabio Petroni and John Schmidt on Friday. Chris Bartrum from Columbus, OH also scored a big with with his 11-9 elimination of defending champion Gabe Owen.
World class 9-ball was not the only attraction at the US Open on Friday as 'A Tribute to a Living Legend' was held honoring BCA Hall of Famer Steve Mizerak. Mizerak was in attendance as well as a "who's who" of past US Open Champions and top players. Between the tears and laughs, a great time was had by all in attendance.
