Caroline Pao made only one match mistake at the JPNEWT event at Great Slates in Cambridge Maryland on August 20th and 21st - she underestimated Kathy Friend's talent while playing for the hot seat and lost 7-4.
But Caroline recouped her composure and seated Carol Clark into 3rd place to regain a rematch with Kathy and then forged on to win the finals, 9-6. In the $1000 added event Caroline won $500 for her win plus a Qualifier to a 2006 WPBA event.
Caroline posted wins over Barbara Stock, Karen Armstrong, and Kimberley Sudler before losing 7-4 to Kathy Friend. She then won against Carol Clark to rematch against Kathy in the finals.
Kathy Friend started out with a bye and then had match wins over Kathleen Lawless and Carol Clark to then meet up with Caroline and send her to the left side of the chart.
In the finals it was all Caroline until Kathy returned 3 racks unanswered to try and catch up at 6-5, but one more game was all Kathy could manage as the final score ended up at 9-6 with Caroline the victor. With her win, Caroline has taken the JPNEWT point lead.
