When Jasmin Ouschan came back from an 8-4 deficit to defeat Pam Cimarelli Saturday evening at the WPBA Great Lakes Classic, Cimarelli was not the only player disappointed. The rest of the field had to wonder if Cimarelli had possibly awoken Ouschan and her "A game". Their fears were well founded.
Ouschan came back after that match to defeat her next three opponents and didn't lose eight games over the duration of all three matches.
First up was previously unbeaten Ga-Young Kim and Kim fell 9-3 to close out Saturday evening play for Ouschan and assure her of her spot in the TV matches on Sunday.
Ouschan played the first TV match on Sunday against Karen Corr. Corr's recent performance overseas had catapulted her to #1 on the World Points list, but Ouschan had already handed Corr a 9-6 defeat on Friday night. This one wasn't event that close as Ouschan jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then matched Corr for a 7-3 win.
After Kelly Fisher eliminated Xiao Ting Pan in the other Semi-final match, Fisher and Ouschan faced off in the finals. The early 3-0 lead had worked well for Ouschan against Corr, and it worked for her again in the finals as she won the first three games. Fisher got on the board in rack four, but Ouschan kept the pressure on and cruised to a 7-2 win for her first WPBA tournament win of the year.
The WPBA points list will see quite a shake up with these results. Kelly Fisher is now tied with Ga-Young Kim for the #1 spot on the list, while Ouschan will be in a three way tie with Monica Webb and Xiao Ting Pan for second place.
