Defending Champion Willner left the field already
Sunday, 07 August 2011: Frank Willner, defending straight pool champion from Germany, will not be able to defend his title here in Luxembourg. He lost in the winner's qualification round to Marko Hartikainen (FIN) with 44:75 and in the loser's qualification round to Jimmy Worung (NED) with 35:75. The straight pool mission has ended here for Willner.
Croatia's Robert Sudic is still alive in the field and will play the quarter-final tomorrow. Today, he had to deal with Steffen Gross (GER). Sudic creamed Gross with 75:12. Gross never seemed to even be able to be a challenge for Sudic. “I did not feel comfortable at the table”, said Gross after the match. “I hope I will show better performances in the other disciplines”.
Other notable results include Manuel Pereira (POR) losing to Pascal Budo (BEL) with 12:75. David Plattner (SUI) managed to defeat Marko Hartikainen (FIN) with 75:34.
