James Davis, Sr. defeated T.J. Davis (no relation) twice to take first place in the Lucasi Hybrid Southwest 10-Ball Tour stop on Saturday, October 9. The $500-added event drew 17 entrants to The Grand in Austin, TX.
From among the winners' side final four, Davis, Sr. sent Drew McCoy west 9-5 as the other Davis was busy sending Cesar Garcia over 9-6. The two Davis' met for the first time battling for the hot seat, and it was Davis, Sr. who was left sitting in it, as a 9-4 win moved the other Davis to the semifinals.
On the one-loss side, Henry Rocha, who'd been sent west from among the winners' side final eight by Garcia, missed a re-match when he drew McCoy coming out of the winners' side final four. Rocha had defeated Mario Quinn 9-4 and Brian Sanders 9-6 to reach McCoy. Garcia faced Dave Henson, who'd gotten by Josh Dordek 9-5 and Travis Phelps 9-3.
McCoy and Garcia opened their one-loss side campaigns successfully; McCoy defeating Rocha in a double hill match, as Garcia got by Henson 9-6. McCoy's day ended when Garcia survived a double hill match against him in the quarterfinals. Davis (T.J.) ended Garcia's bid with a 9-6 win in the semifinals, sending him back for a second matchup versus Davis, Sr. Davis, Sr. completed his undefeated run through the field of 17 with an 11-8 victory in the finals.
