Glen Burnie,MD- The 2010 Maryland Straight Pool Open will take place June 19-20,2010 at Richard & Cindy Molineiro's Big Daddy's Billiards with a strong 40 player field. The event is sponsored by Nick Varner Cues and Cases and promoted by Peter Burrows. The $5,000 added event has drawn the big names in pool in the past including Jeanette Lee and Player of the Decade Mika Immonen, a past winner of the event.
"This event has been a yearly tradition around these parts, and we are pleased that players from all around the country come to attend our event. Every year gets a little bigger and better," says Peter Burrows. Burrows will host a reception, cocktail party and tournament draw for the players at his home the night before the event.
This year's event has a talented field including former World 14.1 Champion Thorsten Hohmann, Derby City 14.1 Champ Danny Harriman, former World 14.1 Champs Mike Sigel and Bobby Hunter, and 2010 Derby City 14.1 Champ and Super Billiards Expo 14.1 Champ Charlie "Dragon" Williams. Other top players include Mike Davis, Shawn Wilkie, Gerda Hofstatter, Bob Chamberlain, and Zion Zvi.
"I would have liked to have played this year because I really love straight pool. But I'll try to put it on my schedule for next time," said Nick Varner, Hall of Famer and co-sponsor of the tournament.
