The one pocket division at the Viking Tour Southern Classic Open is complete with Larry Nevel earning first place honors.
Nevel was rolling along just fine on the winners side until Jerry Slivka appeared. Slivka handed Nevel a disappointing 3-0 loss and sent Nevel to the one loss side. Nevel picked up where he left off on the one loss side and scored wins over Chris Bartrum and Cliff Joyner before Slivka was back in Nevel's sights. Slivka has lost 3-0 to Shawn Putnam for the hot-seat and Nevel finished Slivka off 2-0 on the one loss side.
The final race to five between Putnam and Nevel was a true marathon with Nevel coming out on top by the score of 5-3 for a $3380 payday.
There was no rest for the players after the one pocket as the 8-ball division was ready to kick off immediately after the one pocket was finished. A field of 58 players are in action including top WPBA stars Helena Thornfeldt and Monica Webb.
First round winners in the 8-Ball division include Danny Harriman, Buddy Hall, Shannon Daulton, Ronnie Wiseman, Ron Park, Wade Crane and Nevel.
