The Viking Cue Southern Classic Open 2 10-Ball event started Friday with 72 players and over $17,500 in prize money. This is the final leg of this weeks 9 day event. The tournament matches take place from 9pm Friday and starting again at 11am on Saturday and matches will take place every two hours until 11pm on Saturday. Starting again Sunday at 11am every two hours until the finals at 9pm. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the fantastic play in the cue sport discipline of 10-ball along with viewing the numerous sponsors products from the Viking Cue Tour as well as a custom cue show featuring Hightower Custom Cues, Josey Custom Cues and Gulyassi Custom Cues that will be on display and available for sale thru out the weekend.
Notable Players participating in the 10-ball event include: Ignacio Chavez, Stevie Moore, Shawn Putnam, Gabe Owen, Helena Thornfeldt, Louis Ulrich, Johnny Archer, Larry Nevel, John Schmidt, Rafael Martinez, Chris Bartrum, Monica Webb, Shannon Daulton, Sylver Ochoa and out of retirement Kim Davenport. The field includes 72 of the top players from all over the US, Mexico and Finland. .
Earlier Friday, Larry Nevel completed an undefeated run through the one pocket division to earn first place and $3150 in prize money. Nevel's opponent, Sylver Ochoa, held an early 3-1 lead, but Nevel came back to win four of the next five games for the 5-4 win.
The event is taking place at Mr Cues II Billiards located at 3541 Chamblee-Tucker Rd in Atlanta, Georgia.
