Five of the six New England states were represented in the smallish but talented 24 man field at the Spot Shot Billiard Club in Portland, Me. on Saturday February 20th for the North East Peachauer Tour 9-ball tournament. $1700.00 was up for grabs for the top four finishers.
When the smoke was clearing there remained three Mass. players and one from New Hampshire. Steve Therrian who decided to play at the last minute ended up with the Fourth place finish. Joe Dupuis was 3rd and collected $260.
Tom McGonagle of N. Billerica, Mass, three time New England champion and New England Hall of Famer, was the winner of the losers bracket. Waiting on the zero loss side was Nelson Oliviera of New Bedford, Mass. The match was very close but Nelson prevailed giving him his first tour win. He collected $800 for his efforts while Tom McGonagle had to settle for 2nd and $540.
The Tour is now open to lesser ranked players at a lower entry fee. Instead of the $68.00 fee payed by New England A players lesser players can enter and play with the best for $37.00.
