All divisions will play down to the quarterfinals today; then the Team event starts

Monday, 01 August 2011: Today, the 10-ball competition will be played down to the last eight players in all three disciplines. At 17:00 local time the team event will begin in the juniors and the pupils division.

The 10-ball competition has had some surprises so far. Mikael Oegaard (NOR) clearly overpowered Tobias Bongers (GER) with 6:3. The match was close in the beginning with Bongers even being able to take a small 2:1 lead over Oegaard. The Norwegian then turned the match around. He allowed Bongers to take one more rack and destroyed his young opponent in the end with a clear 6:3 victory.

Other notable results include Mario He (AUT) falling by a margin to the sharp blade of Konrad Piekarski (POL) who took the match in the winner's qualification round with 7:6. He now had to deal with Mihkel Rehepapp (EST) in the loser's qualification round but he also failed there, losing the match 5:7 to the Estonian. That eliminates Mario He out of the 10-ball competition.

He is accompanied by his good mate Manuel Ederer (GER). Ederer lost in the winner's qualification round to Jim Chawki (SWE) with 3:7. He then moved on to the loser's side where he had to play against newly crowned straight pool champion Bence Varga (HUN). What a tough draw for Ederer. He lost 5:7 to Varga in that round and joins He into the spectator's seat for the rest of the 10-ball competition.

The European Championships are hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
