The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour stopped at Gametime/Riptide in Greenville, SC for a $2000 added event this weekend. The Viking Tour events always draw some top firepower and the field was augmented by the presence of none other than 'The Pearl' Earl Strickland for this event.
Early on, the fans were excited about the idea of a rematch between Strickland and Shawn Putnam who faced off against each other for the Viking Cue Tour National Championship back in November. That rematch would not happen on this weekend, as Putnam dropped his first two matches and Strickland was unable to advance beyond Saturday's matches.
While Strickland and Putnam struggled, Stevie Moore looked like the exact same player that won this event last year and ran to the hot-seat where he waited for an opponent.
His opponent would be BJ Ussery, who won the Viking Cue Tour Regional Championship held in this same room back in October. Ussery defeated Scott Rabon 7-6 to win the semi-final match and earn his trip to the finals.
The hill-hill score in Ussery's match would be equaled by Moore in the finals as he scored a hard fought 7-6 win over Ussery for the win.
Moore collected $2350 for first, while Ussery settled for $1600. Rabon and Jeff Abernethy filled out the top four spots.
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Cue-Can-Do Billiards in Schaumburg, IL next weekend for a $2000 added event.
