Molina Ortiz kept her perfect 2024 record intact with another undefeated run through the field to win the Northwest Women’s Pool Association (NWPA) Tour stop at Bobalou Billiards in Roseburg, Oregon on July 20th – 21st.
Ortiz kicked things off on Saturday with back to back 6-1 wins over Kirstin Norris and Linda Massey. Ortiz ran into a challenge in round three, in the form of tour veteran Suzanne Smith. That match was a 6-4 decision for Ortiz. A quick 6-1 win over Raquel Minjarez finished off Saturday for Ortiz.
After starting off Sunday with another 6-1 win (this time against Stephanie Drakulic), Ortiz squared off with Gwen Townsend for the hot-seat. Townsend had already earned her first cash on tour in over a year, but was looking for even more. Ortiz captured the hot-seat with a 6-2 win over Townsend.
On the one loss side, Maryann McConnell was rolling after dropping a 6-4 match to Townsend earlier on Sunday. McConnell had wins over Kathie MacDonald and Drakulic to earn a rematch with Townsend in the semi-final match. That match would go to hill-hill before Townsend pocketed the case 9-ball and was on her way to the finals to face Ortiz again.
Although the finals were an extended race to nine, it was still the same result, with Ortiz scoring a 9-3 win for her third win in the three events of the 2024 NWPA season.
NWPA Staff sent out their thanks to stop sponsors Bob, Sheryl & Steve, owners of Bobalou Billiards and their official tour sponsor Littman Lights. The tour will be in Boise, Idaho on August 17th – 18th, for their next stop.
