The 2008 INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS will be held October 29 at Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT. The field of players will include champions from around the globe.
The Eleventh Annual International Tournament of Champions will be one of the most widely viewed billiards programs on ESPN. Once each year four international champions are brought together in a sudden-death shootout with winner-take-all of $25,000. The purse is the highest single payday in Women's events, and the winner claims one of the most coveted titles in pool – Champion of Champions!
The 2008 field includes top stars in the sport. Karen Corr, the 2007 Champion of Champions and 2007 WPBA Midwest Classic Champion. Allison Fisher, Twelve Time Player of the Year and winner of 53 WPBA Classic Tour titles. Xiao-Ting Pan, 2007 WPA World 9-Ball Champion and 2008 Generation Pool Classic Champion. Ga-Young Kim, 2007 WPBA Carolina Classic Champion and Two Time WPA World 9-Ball Champion.
The International Tournament of Champions is widely considered one of the most difficult tournaments to win in professional billiards. The four players are so evenly matched that any one player could beat the other three on a given day. The matches are two sets, race to four games each set, with a 1-game sudden death tie-breaker in the event of tied sets. The caliber of competition is so intense that a single mistake invariably eliminates a player from any chance at the winner-take-all purse of $25,000.
Mohegan Sun, the host site, will make the event ADMISSION FREE to pool fans.
On Wednesday, October 29, the three matches for the INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS will begin at 3PM. The two Semifinal matches and the Championship Finals will be taped for airing on ESPN in January. The event will be held in the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun and those attending must be 21 years of age or older.
The trophy and the check will be presented by Mohegan Sun and Connelly Billiards. The tournament is also sponsored by Aramith Pro Billiards Balls, Simonis Cloth, L.E.A.N.I. Slate, Original Italian Slate, AcCue Shot Training Device, Executive Billiards Delta-13 Rack and Silver Cup Chalk.
The 2008 event will be produced by Billiards International, Ltd. Those attending should arrive early for each tournament session. Make plans today to attend the INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS. For information call 860-379-8414.
