Ramon Mistica went undefeated through a field of 50 entrants, on hand for the California Pool Player Tour on the weekend of July 17-18. The $750-added event drew 24 Pro and A-level players, as well as 24 B and C-Level players to Break Time Billiards in Modesto, CA.
From among the winners' side final four, Mistica got into a double hill struggle versus his eventual finals opponent, Ernesto Dominguez. Mistica prevailed to get into the hot seat match versus Deo Alpajora, who'd sent Teymour Ansari west 7-2. Mistica gained the hot seat with a 7-2 win over Alpajora.
On the one-loss side, Ansari moved over to face Paul McCaffery, who'd defeated Chris Cruz and Oscar Dominguez , both 7-5. Dominguez' first stop on his trip back to the finals began with Santos Sambojon, who'd gotten by Joe Palley 7-2 and Doug Whaley 7-3 to reach him. Ansari and Dominguez faced each other in the quarterfinals, after suriving double hill matches versus McCaffery and Sambojon.
Dominguez then dropped Ansari into fourth place 7-3 and moved on to meet and defeat Alpajora 7-5 in the semifinals. In the single race-to-9 finals that followed, Mistica avoided the final game decision that had marked his earlier matchup against Dominguez, and opened up a three-game lead that gave him a 9-6 win and the first place prize
