Solymosi also through; Shaw and Majid ousted
Wednesday, 05 October 2011: Balasz Miko (HUN) entered the single elimination stage of the last 32 players of the Beassy™ 8-Ball World's Top Gun by winning over Jim Chawki (SWE) by the skin of his teeth with 8:7.
Chawki, a Swedish youngster who just came out of the junior's division, played a good match against one of two remaining Hungarian hopes, Balasz Miko. None of the actors at the table was able to take a clear lead over the other. The match went along and both players won their racks in turn which unavoidably led to the hill-hill situation at 7:7. It was Chawki's break and he pocketed balls, having a good position for the cue ball. He pocketed an object ball with a combination shot and another one of his group's ball came to rest in a pretty awkward position, lying at the nose of the side pocket. Chawki played position for that and even managed to pocket that ball in the lower corner pocket. But he snookered himself by putting the cue ball behind the 8-ball, making it almost impossible to pocket one of his three remaining object balls. He tried to pocket a ball with a masse shot but hit the 8-ball first. With ball-in-hand, Miko came to the table and ran all balls, winning the match with 8:7.
Miko's compatriot Solymosi had a similar tough match, just winning with 8:6 over Shaun Storry (GBR). Andreas Roschkowsky (GER) took down Imran Majid (GBR) in a gripping match with 8:7. Majid joins the destiny of Jayson Shaw (SCO) who fell to Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) with 6:8.
