The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was at Renaissance Billiard Club in Quincy, MA this weekend with a field of 51 players competing in the $5000 added event.
Mike Davis cruised to the hot-seat with a 9-2 win over Jason Michas. Michas is a player more known for his play on the Killer B's tour than for his play on the Joss Tour, but he made his presence known in a big way this weekend. After the loss to Davis, Michas went to the left side of the board where 'The Earthquake' Keith McCready was waiting for him.
McCready had just scored his second victory over 'Kid Delicious' Danny Basavich in the tournament and was not planning on settling for third place. The match went back and forth with Jason pulling ahead 8-7 to get to the hill first. Michas was running out the next rack and looked ready for his spot in the finals when he took a 9-ball too lightly and missed it. McCready pocketed the ball to tie the score at 8-8. The case game saw McCready in control and running out for a win when the pool gods decided to play a little trick on him. A miscue on the 6-ball by McCready let Michas back to the table and he took full advantage of the second life and ran out the last 4 balls to finally earn his spot in the finals.
The finals were much more competitive than Davis and Michas' first match, but in the end it was Davis pulling out a 9-7 win to earn first place.
Davis earned $3000 in prize money, while Michas settled for $2000. McCready and Basavich filled out the top four spots.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Adirondack Billiards in Glens Falls, NY next weekend for a $2000 added event. Don't forget the $15,000 added event at Turning Stone Casino on February 19th - 20th. Pre registration is available by calling Mike Zuglan at 518-356-7163. There will also be an open poker tournament at Turning Stone on Friday the 18th of February. This event is expected to be limited to 150 players and participation in the pool tournament is not required to play in the poker tournament.
