Mika Immonen, the current WPA World No.1 ranked player, is today announced as the fourth player on the European side for the forthcoming PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup, which takes place at the York Hall, East London from 9-12 December.
It will be the Finnish star's 14th Mosconi Cup appearance; a record he will be sharing with Ralf Souquet and Johnny Archer. He made his debut in 1996 at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham and played uninterrupted until 2007 when he missed the trip to Las Vegas.
However, he returned to the fray in 2008 when he put on his best ever Mosconi show as he won five matches, including the final game of the tournament to help Europe to their biggest ever victory.
"I'm thrilled to go back to my birthplace, London for the Mosconi Cup!” said delighted Immonen.
“It being held at York Hall is massive. I remember the atmosphere being so electric, you could cut the air with a knife!
“Also I have fond memories from there when we won in 2002. It's an honour to be on the team again with so many talented individuals. As fate has it, also two of UK's own made it so that is fantastic as well.”
Immonen takes his place in the side along with European No.1 Karl Boyes, Germany's Ralf Souquet and US Open champion Darren Appleton, with the remaining player to be named later this week. The captain this year is Johan Ruijsink, who led Team Europe to a superb win in Las Vegas in 2007.
Taking place at East London's famous York Hall, following an eight year absence, the PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup features two five man teams representing Europe and the USA competing over four days from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th December.
