With a full field of sixty-four players turning up over the Memorial Day weekend of May 24-25, 2008, Hollywood Billiards saw some of the top players in the U.S. make their way through their doors for its $3000 added ten-ball event. Notables included Jose Parica, Louis Ulrich, WPBA professional player Melissa Herndon, Dave Hemmah, and the list goes on.
But, the guy to beat this weekend was none other than Ramil Gallego. Gallego flexed his muscles against Parica in the battle for the hot-seat, but was unable to hold him off causing him to work his way past a very tough competitor on the one-loss side to avenge the loss - Parica ultimately bested Gallego 7-5 to wait it out on the winner's side of the brackets for his opponent in the final round.
Gallego, on the other hand, headed west where he had to earn his spot back into the finals by ending Louis Ulrich's tournament life in the semi finals. Ulrich had just put Tang Hoa out of the event 7-4 in the quarters, but was dominated in the semis by Gallego 7-1. Gallego then moved into the single set final round with Parica and was able to take revenge out on him for the hot-seat loss - the final score 9-5.
A special thanks to Jeff Bey of Hollywood Billiards for hosting the event and adding the $3000; and to Jay Helfert for providing his services as a fantastic Tournament Director. Hollywood Billiard has another event slated for July 4-6, 2008 entitled The “Hollywood Jack” Memorial One-Pocket Tournament. The event will host a mini-tournament July 4th, $30 entry, $500 added, single elimination, races to two; and the main event on July 5th-6th with a $75 entry, $2500 added, double elimination, races to three.
