The Arizona Women's Billiards Tour opened their new season at Pockets in Tucson, Aricona with a WPBA Qualifier for the Cuetec Cues Canadian Classic in October.
The hot-seat was captured by Anne Gray from Tucson, with a 7-5 victory over Susan Mello. Mello was undaunted, and defeated Angel Paglia 7-4 on the one-loss side to earn the rematch with Gray in the true double elimination finals.
Mello avenged her hot-seat loss, with a 7-5 win over Gray and then won the tournament with a 7-4 win in the second set. Mello already had a spot at the WPBA event, so Gray won the invitation to Canada.
Susan Mello took home $297 for first, while Gray settled for $201 for second. Paglia and Susan Williams filled out the top four spots.
The second chance tournament almost went the same way as the main event, when Meiko Yamanobe came from the one-loss side and beat Tracey Elliott in the first set of the finals. Elliott, came through in the second set though, and beat Yamanobe for the tournament win.
