On Saturday, July 13, the ladies of the West Coast Women’s Tour headed to Diamond Billiards in Modesto, CA for their third tour stop of the 2024 season. As is the standard format of the tour, the 9-ball competition got underway at 11:00am and featured a double-elimination bracket with races to five on the winner’s side and races to three on the one-loss side.
The big story of the event was headlined by Sacramento-based player Meadow Klingler, who went through the field undefeated to score her first-ever win on the tour. Klingler has been a competitor on the West Coast Women’s Tour for over ten years, and frequently plays at Hard Times Billiards and The Jointed Cue in Sacramento as well as Diamond Billiards in Rancho Cordova. On her route to the top, Meadow Klingler marked wins over Faith Overturf (5-0), Krysta Brown (5-1), Polly Stoddard (5-1), and Stop 2 winner Gigi Callejas (5-3) to land in the hot seat match.
Meeting Klingler at the top of the winner’s bracket was another player who had her best performance on the tour to date, Naomi Manuel-Callado. Along her path through the bracket, Manuel-Callado took down Cary Horner (5-3), Donna Mae Bulanadi (5-3), Emilyn Callado (5-3), and Ashley Herr (5-2). Following her successful run, Naomi Manuel-Callado’s hot seat against Meadow Klingler would end with a one-sided scoreline of 5-1 in favor of Klingler.
On the loss side, one of the tour’s consistent top finishers, Lela Andrews had an impressive performance with a run of four wins before being knocked out by Gigi Callejas. This result paired up Callejas against Ashley Herr in the quarterfinal, which turned out to be a close battle won by Herr with a 3-2 scoreline. The semifinal would then be a rematch between Ashley Herr and Naomi Manuel-Callado, resulting in a similar outcome as Manuel-Callado took the win, 3-1.
The final showdown turned out to be another replay in a race to five, as Meadow Klingler took down her second match against Naomi Manuel-Callado with the same score of 5-1. When asked about her performance at Diamond Billiards, Klingler commented, “I feel I shot great that day, and had a great time playing with all the ladies!”
Along with the main event, a second-chance tournament was held for players who made an early exit. The winner in this event was Donna Mae Bulanadi, while Toni Strong came in runner-up. Congratulations to all the top finishers at Diamond Billiards.
