Shooters II in Lake Jackson, TX hosted the second stop of the year for the women of the Hunter Classics Amateur Women's Tour. Forty one women from around the US came to compete at this stop, which was also a WPBA Qualifier for the Peoria, IL WPBA event.
Lisa Marr from Arkansas and Leslie Anne Rogers from the Dallas area played for the winner's bracket Sunday afternoon with Leslie coming out on top. For the third place match, Orietta Strickland from the Dallas area played against Lisa. Although Lisa lost that match, she placed 3rd winning $390 PLUS the WPBA Qualifier spot as she was the last women left in the tournament who paid the qualifying fee. In this true double elimination tournament, Orietta Strickland would need to defeat Leslie twice to win the tournament. Orietta was playing well and defeated Leslie the first set 7-2. But, the score of the second set would prove to show more of the skills of these two BCA Master players. With the score 6-6, and both players playing well and putting on an excellent match for the spectators, Leslie won the last game to earn her $750, with Orietta winning $550 for her second place finish. Julie Stephenson and Tara McCracken (both from the Dallas area) placed 5th/6th and won $145. Ellen Van Buren from Florida placed 4th and won $290.
