One of the pool rooms that continues to be a great supporter of the tours in the area, Capone's, in Springhill, Florida, was the place to be July 12, 2008, as the Tiger Bay Area Amateur Tour stopped in for their most recent $500 added stop. With plenty of enthusiastic fans, the tour offered not only fun prize raffles, but very competitive matches to keep their eyes peeled. The ladies not only made new fans but had plenty to tag along for support.
The day began with the women playing a bit cautiously to avoid costly mistakes, but for one consistent top finishing player, Michell Monk, this was a downfall as it caused an early upset by her opponent, Margaret “Sis” Tarver. Tarver would move on to make her first appearance in the money rounds with a fifth place finish along with Lisa Parsons, who showed she was no push over either. Coming along in fourth place was Connie Mage – Mage pushed past several opponents to show that she was a force to be reckoned with as this was her second time in the money this season.
Although Monk had a rough start, she graciously worked her way through the one-loss side to an eventual third place finish, which came at the hands of tour newbie Niki Rasmussen. Playing in only her second BAAT event of the year, Rasmussen played with great determination and proved with a couple of amazing nine ball shots that she was there to win. Rasmussen then had a chance at the top prize against tour hot shot Leslee Davis-Blaikie, but her momentum was not enough to take down the ultra competitor in Davis Blaikie.
Even after sitting and waiting a couple of hours for the final round to take place, Davis Blaikie had no problem stepping up to the plate and came out firing to claim top honors for the second time this season. This will add to her already impressive BAAT season resume of two second place finishes, one third place, and one fourth place conclusion. Great shooting ladies!
