Billiard Professionals Melissa Little of Denver, CO and Kim White of Houston, TX, will team up on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in Houston, Texas to help open up the world of billiards to kids 17 and under. The second in a series of “Kids Pool Camps” will be held at Bogies Billiards & Sports Bar located at 3040 FM 1960 East, Suite 101 Houston, TX, starting at 6:30pm. These WPBA Touring Professionals (Women’s Professional Billiard Association, wpba.com) along with www.Str8- ‐Shots.com, an online billiard and dart accessories company, will produce this event in Texas. Other cities in this series include Round Rock, TX and Denver, CO, where “The Viper” Melissa Little will team up with fellow pros in order to “open up” the exciting sport of billiards to kids. A successful future for any sport is contingent upon the grass roots efforts of its forebearers. “Our sport depends on the players of tomorrow, the next generation,” says Little. The owners of Str8shots.com along with Melissa share a passion for ensuring the sport continues to expand and in order for that to happen the industry needs to encourage youth participation. “It is sad when talent goes unnoticed or undeveloped because resources are not available. We are working together to make sure that young people have the tools they need to excel in the sport of billiards”, sentiments offered by Str8shots owners Marc and Kimberly Griffiths.
A professional billiard lesson can range anywhere from $50-$100 per hour. Melissa has created the “Kids Pool Camp” series to be fun, educational and cost effective for parents. Each camp costs $49.00 per child and each child will receive a brand new cue stick and cue case, along with a 2½ hour group billiard session with the pros. “Pool is not only fun and challenging, but it helps build character and self- ‐esteem. It has many lessons to teach”, says White. This second camp will be held at Bogies Billiards where White has been “house pro” for almost 9 years. Kids will enjoy playing with their new equipment and will compete for prizes donated by www.str8- ‐ shots.com. Bogies’ owner David Richardson welcomes and encourages families to engage themselves and their children through billiards. “We hope to make this event a big success for the kids”, says Richardson.
