In the first-ever stop of a Mezz Cues Women’s Tour on Saturday, May 8, My-Hanh Lac survived a strong challenge by Pam Cimarelli in a true double elimination final to become the first winner on the tour. The $260-added event drew a short field of 13 entrants to Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, PA.
Lac and Cimarelli were among the winners’ side final four, but would not meet until the finals. Lac and Megan Smith advanced to the hot seat match with identical 7-3 victories over Denise Reebe and Cimarelli, respectively. A double hill win over Smith left Lac in the hot seat.
On the one-loss side, Supadra Geronimo advanced to meet Cimarelli, after victories over Borana Andoni 6-5 and Kristy Bell 6-4. Reebe faced Kim Jones, who’d defeated Neslihan Gurel 6-5 and then shut out Caroline Pao. With 6-4 victories over Geronimo and Reebe, Cimarelli and Jones moved into the quarterfinals, which proved to be the first money round of play.
Cimarelli defeated Jones 6-3 and then began a string of 15 games in which she gave up only two racks. She gave up the first one in a 7-1 win over Smith in the semifinals, and allowed the other one in the opening set of the true double elimination final versus Lac. Lac fought back in the second set, which, with both players on the one-loss side, was reduced to six games. Lac won it 6-2 to become the first winner on the Mezz Women’s Tour.
The next scheduled event on the tour is scheduled for July 30th. It will be held at Mr. Cue Billiards in Lindenhurst (Long Island), NY.
