Ortmann, Feijen and Peach in the semis
Saturday, 18 August 2012: In a grand thriller, Artem Koshovyi (UKR) pipped Mark
Gray (GBR) to the post with 8:7.
Today seems to be the day of close decisions in the Dynamic Billiard Germany Open. In the round of the last 16 players this morning, five out of eight matches finished 8:7. That shows how many top players perform at an equal level these days. Two of the winners of the quarter-finals were Koshovyi and Gray. Gray ousted Jentsch (GER) 8:7 after trailing 4:7 already while Koshovyi defeated Skowerski (POL) 8:7. And in their quarter-final match, they went along head to head. Only after eight racks, Gray was leading with two points 5:3. And that was equalized by Koshovyi after the next two racks. Other than that, the match went along in each one of them getting a point but not being able to pull clear of the opponent. So it came to a hill-hill situation at 7:7. Koshovyi proved to have the better nerves and won the rack, snatching the match with 8:7.
Koshovyi will face Niels Feijen (NED) in the semi-final match at 16:00 CET. Feijen eliminated Ralf Souquet (GER) and Radoslaw Babica (POL) for his seat in the semis. The other semi-final will be played at 14:30 CET between Oliver Ortmann (GER) and Daryl Peach (GBR).
This morning, the women’s Euro-Tour has also started. 32 female players will play today and tomorrow for the title and a total prize fund of 6.000,-€. Favourites for the title are Ana Majirina (RUS) and Oliwia Czuprynska (POL), the current World 9-ball Champion in the girl’s division. During the men’s semi-final and final matches, the women’s event will be halted. It will be continued tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET.
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket
Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information and reference please go to the federation website www.eurotouronline.eu , follow us on twitter @EPBF_News or contact our press office.
