Babineau's Billiards in Raleigh, NC was the site of a recent WPBA Qualifier event on November 5th-6th that brought out a mixture of top amateurs as well as touring pros.
After losing the hot-seat match to Christy Norris (7-4), Kelly Fisher returned with a vengeance in the final match to take first place honors. Fisher wasted little time in defeating Norris 9-0 in the single race to nine. Norris, however, had already secured the prize on which she had set her sights: as the highest-finishing, eligible player, she earned a $500 entry into the 2006 Carolina Women's Billiard Classic (CWBC), scheduled for February 23-26, 2006, at Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, NC.
In her journey to the hot seat, Norris defeated Michelle Johnson (7-5), Val Finnie (7-6), Julie Reaves (7-3) and Kelly Fisher (7-4). Meanwhile, Fisher defeated her first three opponents, Jennifer Dollar, Leslie Boulware and Lara Rossignol, each by a 7-1 score. After her defeat at the hands of Norris, Fisher then edged out Ellen Van Buren (7-5) to earn the rematch with Norris.
The next WPBA Qualifier for the 2006 CWBC will be hosted by Sharks-N-Shooters in Rocky Mount, NC, November 26th-27th, 2006. Most of the ladies are planning to return for this event, saying 'nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina' when it comes to pool tournaments. Promoted by PrimeQuest Association in association with Rock City Promotions, both WPBA Qualifier events are awarding an entry into the 2006 CWBC, which is the first stop on the 2006 WPBA Tour and will be televised on ESPN.
