Kay and Peach Win Fujairah Spots

James Kay and Britain's number one 9 ball player Daryl Peach emerged as victors from the BPPPA's WPA World 8 Ball Championship qualifying events, held at Rileys in Stretford over 10th - 13th June 2004.

Mancunian Kay won the first of the two events, the British Qualifier, beating Daryl Peach 10-8 in the final. Kay had reached the final undefeated, knocking out Kevin Uzzell and Gareth Esprit along the way, while Daryl had to fight his way through the losers' half since losing his opening game to Carl Morris. In the International Qualifier, Peach again had it all to do after going down to Lee Chenman in the last eight, but he beat Gareth Esprit and then won the rematch with Chenman to go into the final against Dutchman Rico Diks, winning 10-7.

Third and fourth place finishers in the British Qualifier were Kevin Uzzell and Carl Morris resepectively, and in the International Qualifier Lee Chenman and Steve Higton.

Both players will go on to represent Great Britain and the BPPPA at the WPA World 8 Ball Championships in Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates this September. The event is sanctioned by the WPA and carries a prize fund of $100,000. Full details of the event can be found on the EPBF website at http://www.epbf.com/WC8ball/index.html.
