The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour drew a field of 25 players to Mr Cues 2 Billiards in Atlanta Ga over Father's Day weekend for a $1000 added qualifier for the WPBA Midwest Classic in Norman, OK. Top players in the field included Lisa D'Atri, Dawn Fox, Betty Sessions, Susan Mello and Leslie Davis-Blaikie.
D'Atri and Fox made their way through the right side of the board. D'Atri scored wins over Amy Chen, Blaikie, Buffy Jolie and Katie Cowan while Fox defeated Autumn Duncan, Cheryl Couch and Susan Mello.
The match for the hot-seat went to Fox by the score of 7-3.
On the one loss side, Katie Cowan from Charlotte NC was plowing through the competition. After her loss to D'Atri, Cowan eliminated Susan Wilbur and Betty Sessions before exacting her revenge on D'Atri to make her way to the finals.
The tournament was true double elimination, so Cowan would have to defeat Fox twice to take home the coveted WPBA qualifier. The first set went to Cowan 7-5 and the second set also went to Cowan 7-3.
Viking Tour Director Mike Janis complimented the owners and staff of Mr Cues; "Mr. Cues was an excellent host for the event. Mr Cues features 40 tables, a full bar a kitchen. The room excelled in taking care of players during the event. They sectioned off 8 tables for the players and had raised seating for spectators. It was a great tournament venue and everyone from the event wishes to thank Susan and Richard Sweet, the owners of Mr Cues for taking great care of the players and spectators alike."
