HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Karen Corr defeated Allison Fisher 7-4 to win the 2006 Cuetec Cues Florida Championship held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino June 29 - July 2.
Corr successfully defended her title in the event that she won in 2005 and won her second event of 2006. The No. 2 ranked player in the world, Corr advanced to the finals by defeating Jeanette Lee 7-5 in the semifinals. Lee won the event in 2004 and played a spirited semifinal match before succumbing to Corr. Lee, a.k.a "The Black Widow" was a fan favorite and continued her streak of performing well in the South Florida tourney.
No. 1 ranked Allison Fisher vied for her 49th WPBA Tournament Championship but fell short losing in the final to Corr. Fisher advanced to the finals by defeated Monica Webb 7-3 in the semifinals. Webb pulled away from Ga Young Kim Saturday night 9-6 to gain the final spot in the semis. Kim and Webb were tied 6-6 before Webb won the final three games to win the match.
Vivian Villarreal, the "Texas Tornado" was knocked out in the Round of 16 at the event by Webb. Villarreal, who is sponsored by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, hosted a Celebrity Charity Media Pro-Am prior to the event which included the participation of NFL stars Daunte Culpepper, Michael Irvin, Cleveland Gary, Donnie Jones and the many South Florida media personalities. The event benefited her foundation, "Vivian's Kidz" which aims to help missing and exploited children. Villarreal's daughter, who was kidnapped and found eight years later, watched her play professionally for the first time at the Cuetec Cues Florida Classic.
