The Great Southern Billiard Tour and Weekend's Pub in Goose Creek, South Carolina, hosted The Charleston Classic II this past weekend (November 17-18, 2007). Within this mighty field of forty players, such names as Shannon Daulton, Josh Roberts, Mike Staubes, Jared McGee, Greg Dix, and Shawn Miller stepped to the forefront to try their hand at this $1500 added event. In addition to these top names, six military members, one junior and one woman player threw their names in the hat for their chance at the title.
After fantastic play on Saturday and into Sunday, three players stood out on top of the brackets – Josh Roberts, Jared McGee, and Shannon Daulton. Daulton played deep into the brackets before being sent to the one-loss side by Josh Roberts in a tight race that ended with a hill-hill match, final score 9-8. Once he reached the one-loss side, Daulton was able to best Mike Staubes and Shawn Miller before he ran into Jared McGee who had been sent to the same side by the very determined Josh Roberts 9-5 during the hot seat match. McGee ended Daulton's run with a 9-6 upset, sending him home in third place.
McGee's win over Daulton set-up a final round between himself and hot-seat winner Josh Roberts. Roberts had already had a stellar weekend with wins over R.C. Morris 9-3, Mike Basha 9-2, Rocky Guell 9-3, and of course Shannon Daulton and Jared McGee. In the end, Roberts maintained his competitive spark and ended McGee's event with a second place finish. Congratulations to Josh Roberts!
Thanks go out to tour sponsors Nick Varner Cues & Cases, Jimmy Reeves Custom Cues & Repairs, Break N Run Sportswear, and AZBilliards.com; and to the management and staff at Weekend's Pub for hosting a great event and for signing on as a tour stop in 2008 (March 8th and 9th).
