More strong fields for the Tiger Pool Tour in 2007 as 85 players entered the Open Division with 24 in the Ladies Division. Tour stop #3 was held March 31st/April 1st at Bill & Billies Cuesport in Arnold, MD. This was a $2500 added event made possible by room owner Kurt Ziem and the tour sponsors.
Saturday afternoon matchups held a good bit of interest as Josh Brothers overcame Danny Mulhollen III 9-8. Larry Kressel defeated tour points' leader Shaun Wilkie 9-5 and followed that up with a 9-8 win over Pooky Rasmeloungon. The final eight winner side going into Sunday was very strong with Matt Clatterbuck vs Lee Holt, Kevin West vs Jerry Slivka, southern gentleman Cary Dunn vs Kressel and Brett Stottlemyer taking on Brothers.
On Sunday, Clatterbuck advanced easily 9-1 while Slivka, Dunn and Brothers worked their way forward all with 9-6 scores. Clatterbuck came through Slivka 9-8 in a well played match that clearly could have gone either way. Brothers dominated Dunn 9-3 for his spot in the hot seat match. This match was highly anticipated as both players were clearly playing strong all weekend. Clatterbuck again wound up at hill-hill and emerged on the right end 9-8.
The elimination bracket had one tough match after another all Sunday afternoon. Lee Holt defeated Richard Barney, Brandon Shuff and Dunn in the top of the bracket. Stottlemyer eliminated Daniel Madden, Kressel and Slivka before falling 7-6 to Holt to take the 4th spot. Josh Brothers took care of Holt easily 7-2 to earn a rematch with Clatterbuck. This was another exciting match as both players shoot quickly and confidently. A long rattled 3 ball by Clatterbuck at 9-9 let Brothers win that game. A hanging 2-9 billiard on the break with the one ball down gave Brothers the win in the single set final race to 11. 1st paid $1100 with $800 for 2nd.
The highlight for the ladies division on Sunday was the mad scramble for the qualifying spot for the Las Vegas BCA event in May. Pamela Treadway dominated the winner side with wins over Kim Sudler 7-1, Sueyen Rhee 7-4, Kathy Friend 7-2 and Malea Haacke 7-1 in the hot seat match. In the elimination bracket My-Hanh Lac defeated Rhee 5-3 and then placed Friend into 4th by a 5-1 score. A 5-3 revenge win over Haacke put Lac into the final. The single set final race to 9 when back and forth including ties at 6, 7 and 8. In the final game, Lac was the last player at the table sinking the 9 for the win and qualifying spot. 1st paid $450 in addition to the $500 qualifying spot with Treadway taking home $300 for 2nd.
