Event 4 of the Tiger Planet Pool 9 Ball Tour was held April 22/23rd at First Break Cafe in Sterling, VA. 52 Players came out to compete in this northern Virginia player favorite pool room. This was a strong field with all Top 10 players on the points list in attendance. The weekend highlighted a couple of young guns as 20 year old Josh Brothers and 18 year old Pamela Treadway completed undefeated runs to win their respective events.
Local favorite Brandon Shuff kept the home crowd enthused when he knocked off current points? leader Jerry Slivka Saturday afternoon. Newcomer to the tour Chuck Fake knocked off pro player Mike Davis before falling to Planet Pool Tour founder Danny Green. Josh Brothers took care of Green and was joined in the final four winner-side by Shaun Wilkie, Chris Futrell and Shuff.
12 players returned on Sunday. Brothers continued past Wilkie while Shuff handed Futrell a pass to the elimination bracket. Brothers and Shuff matched up in the final and it was Brothers taking the hot seat easily 9-4. Jerry Slivka was doing some damage on the one-loss side after his early setback sending a stream of talented players home. He downed Cary Dunn, Pooky Rasmeloungon, Danny Green, Brett Stottlemyer and Chris Futrell. He followed that up eliminating Wilkie into the 4th spot to set up a rematch with Shuff. Slivka came up short in this match losing 7-6. The single set final match race to 11 between Brothers and Shuff went in favor of Brothers by an 11-8 score. This was the second win of 2006 on the tour for Brothers and Shuff?s highest finish to date. 1st was worth $1000 with $650 for 2nd.
An even field of 16 ladies entered the Sunday Women?s division. The top half of the bracket was won by Pamela Treadway the winner of the previous event in Cambridge, MD. The bottom of the chart was claimed by newcomer Asia Cycak. Treadway continued on to the hot seat. In the elimination bracket Amanda Pasko put Kim Sudler into 4th place. Cycak defeated Pasko for the second time in this event to earn a rematch with Treadway. The single set final race to 9 went to Treadway by a comfortable 9-3 score. Treadway earned $360 for 1st with Cycak getting $240 for an excellent 2nd place in just her first event on tour.
