With an 11-6 win in the finals, John Schmidt is your new US Open Champion.
Schmidt had his game firing on all cylinders all day and cruised through David Broxson and Gabe Owen in his first two matches. But Rodolfo Luat was unbeaten all week and would prove to be a formidable opponent in the finals.
Luat came out early and took advantage of a couple errors by Schmidt. But trailing 4-2, Schmidt turned his game up another notch and won five straight games to pull ahead 7-4. It was smooth sailing from there as Schmidt coasted to the 11-6 victory.
Schmidt earned $40,000 for first place, while Luat settled for $15,000 in second place prize money. Former champion Gabe Owen took home $10,000 for third place, while David Broxson pocketed $5,000 for fourth.
