Twenty seven of the best A/B players in the New England area made their way to Mickey's Billiards in Holbrook Ma for thei second stop on the Pechauer New England A/B Tour's 2005/2006 season. Top players competing in the event included Tony Ruberto, Shayne Cote, Walter Bryska, Chris Leal, Jason Michas, Jay Stevens, Mike Dechaine, Joey Dupris and Ivo Petrov.
While the event was filled with top play, of special note was the great play of Mike Dechaine who eliminated tournament favorite Tony Ruberto early in the event.
The hot seat match was between Shayne Cote and Joey Dupris. The match was one sided with Joey making many uncharactistic errors on his way to a 7-3 loss.
Meanwhile, a hot Mike Dechaine was wating for Dupris in the finals on the one loss side. This match featured some great shot making from both players, but it seemed that it was destiny that Dupris have a rematch with Cote, and he got it with a 7-5 win over Dechaine.
The format for the finals is one race to 10 games. Joey came out of the gate firing and won the first 6 games before Shayne knew what hit him. In game seven, Joey made a mistake and lost his first game to make the score 6-1. Cote ran the next 2 racks to make the score 6-3, but Joey then regained control and won the next 4 games to capture his first victory of the year.
I would like to thank Mickeys billiards for hosting this event and hope to see everbody at the next event which is on October 2 at Legendary Billiards in Malden Ma.
