As day 1 at the Jay Swanson Memorial ended, all the usual suspects still remained in the winners bracket. There haven't been any real upsets other than Corey Harper's 1st round lost. Bill Stock, Mark Estes and Jay Helfert have been running a great tournament, starting the first matches today as early as 10:30 am and by 1:00 in the morning, 128 players will have been eliminated leaving only the 64 players to battle it out on Sunday.
There have been some great matches today. Rafael Martinez played Oscar Dominguez with Rafael claiming the match. Ernesto Dominguez dominated Paul Juarez from Modesto, California with an 8-2 victory. Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day of play with Scott Frost meeting up with Max Eberle on the winner's side. Also on the Winner's side is Rafael Martinez playing Jose Parica. Mitch Ellerman, Bernardo Chavez, Sal Butera, Morro, Mark Estes, Tang Hoa, and Justin Bergman are also still in the Winner's side. On the one loss side 14 year old Brendan Crockett still remains as well as Brian Parks, Frank "The Barber" Almanza, Gus Briseno, Oscar Dominguez, Gary Onomura, Corey Harper, Sean Lane, and Fred Boggs to name a few.
