It might have been Max Eberle who took the hot-seat at the 9th Annual Jay Swanson Memorial tournament, but it was Gerardo Jamito who was the eventual winner in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Eberle won the hot-seat with a 9-7 win over Paul Juarez who had just send Jamito to the one-loss side in the previous match.
Jamito was undaunted though and took the path on the left side of the board to get to the finals. Jamito eliminated Ismael Paez and then handed Santos Sambajon a 7-2 loss. Jamito then avenged his loss to Juarez with a 7-4 win to earn a spot in the finals against Eberle.
The final match didn't get started until midnight and 2 hours and 15 minutes later it was Jamito pocketing the last 9-ball for the 13-8 victory.
Jamito earned $3390 for first, while Eberle settled for $2000 in second place prize money. Juarez and Sambajon filled out the top four spots. This was the second time Jamito had competed in this annual event. He took second place in 2002.
Tournament director Mark Griffin expressed his thanks to Hilary Morse and Tina Pawloski for their help in running this mammoth 2-day event.
