The Jacoby Custom Cues Carolina Tour held its first event of the 2007-2008 season at Shooters in Greensboro, North Carolina, the weekend of October 26th through October 28th. That event saw Sparky Ferrell travel through the brackets undefeated winning $2000 plus a spot in the 2008 Carolina Open, courtesy of Fast Eddie's in Goldboro, North Carolina. This stop had a record crowd of forty-two players from seven different states, twelve players splitting a total payout of $5100. Check out the story at www.azbilliards.com and next month's issues of Billiards Digest and Inside Pool.
The second stop of the season will kick off this weekend (November 17th-18th) at Pastime Billiards & Pub in Kinston, North Carolina. The poolroom owner, Michael Eubanks, recently brought in Lane Gilbert to cover nine tables in 860 Simonis, and the room itself can easily be located next to a bowling alley where Highways 70 and 258 intersect (going east on Highway 70, the pool room will be on the right).
This Saturday afternoon, all players in the Main Event will enjoy fried chicken and barbecue, compliments of Kings Barbecue on Highway 70 in Kinston. The stop will also have Chairman of the Board performing at the club next to the poolroom on Saturday night. For lodging, contact the Hampton Inn as they are offering a discount on rooms - just mention Pastime Billiards and Pub and they will ensure you receive a good rate.
As a reminder, there will be an Early Bird Tournament on Friday night and the Main Event starts Saturday at 1:00 (sign-up by 12:30 pm, free practice starts at 11:00 am). Also, women and juniors do not pay for tour cards - $65 will get them in any tournament. The Junior Tournament will begin at 11:00 on Sunday. If you know any aspiring pool sharks (19 and under), let them know this could be their ticket to the 2008 Junior Nationals. Plus, if they play in the Main Event, the $20 entry fee for the Junior Tournament is waived.
All weekend, as a great way to welcome OB-1 as the newest sponsor of the Jacoby Tour, Tour Director Doug Ennis will offer the opportunity to try an OB-1 demo shaft on your playing personal cue. If you're not familiar with the OB-1 shaft, it is comparable to the Predator 314 but superior in quality and performance at a better price.
The third stop of the season is scheduled for December 8-9, 2007 at Fast Eddie's in Goldsboro, North Carolina. If you have questions about the tour or would like to find a venue near you, see www.rockcitypromotions.com. A flyer for this event and a special women's event scheduled for December 1st and 2nd are attached.
