There were mixed fortunes for two of the big name Taiwanese players as 1992 and 2000 champion Chao Fong-pang and last year's victor Wu Chia-ching completed their second round matches in the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship in Manila .
Both Wu and Chao faced fellow countrymen on the TV Tables in the late afternoon as the 2005 champ faced Wang Hung-hsiang and Chao squared off against Fu Che-wei.
Wu, 17, looked at his confident best as he hammered Wang 10-3 and it was the type of performance that cemented his prospects as a potential repeat winner of this event.
Wu's general play looks as good as ever and he will certainly be relishing a match with Scotland 's Pat Holtz tomorrow for a place in the quarter-finals.
Chao though, was disappointing as he was outlasted by Fu Che-wei in a drawn out 10-8 affair. Fu had never got beyond the last 32 in three previous visits to the WPC and his reward is a match with either Steve Davis or Jharome Pena.
Another excellent Taiwanese player, Liu Cheng-chuan, put paid to Korean hopes as he had a comfortable 10-6 win over Ryu Seong-woo.
He now plays surprise package Tyler Edey of Canada who won a hill-hill thriller against Indonesian Ricky Yang.
