Mika Immonen has won the 15th Ocean State 9-Ball Championship at Snooker's Café & Billiards in Providence, RI.
Immonen made his way to the hot-seat with wins over Lou Ferrara, Ed Vasquez, Bob Maidhof, Tom D'Alfonso, Steve Tavernier, Frankie Hernandez and Jarrod Clowery.
Meanwhile, on the one loss side, Robb Saez was mowing down opponents on his way to the final match. Saez drew Karen Corr in his first match of the event and defeated her 9-5. Saez, then lost to Tony Ruberto to find himself on the one-loss side early Saturday. From there, Saez won 11 straight matches to get back to the finals. During this run, Saez eliminated such notables as D'Alfonso, Mike Keith, Frankie Hernandez, Karen Corr and Jarrod Clowery.
Saez was not done yet, as he handed Immonen loss #1 with a 9-6 victory in the first set of the finals. Immonen came out strong in the second set and jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the race to nine. Saez then won a game, then another. Saez was in the middle of an almost impossible comeback at 8-4 when he scratched on 9-ball to give the set to Immonen 9-4.
Immonen collected $3000 for first place, while Saez settled for a well earned $2100 in second place prize money. Clowery and Corr filled out the top four spots and won $1600 and $1200 respectively.
