Day two of the Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open is in the books and this event is writing its own stories. Yesterday was in the light of the huge surprises. Today, the Austrian top players Albin Ouschan, Mario He and Maximilian Lechner all stormed into the round of the last 16 players single elimination.
Hometown hero Albin Ouschan is definitely on fire on his own soil. Today, he went into the single elimination round undefeated with another victory. This time, Chen Siming (CHN) was his victim with 9:5. Then in the round of the last 32 players, Ouschan demonstrated to the audience that he really like to play in front of a home crowd. He played against Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) and literally stormed off in the match. After 11 racks, the score was 8:3 in favour of Ouschan. He dominated Sanchez to his liking. Then, the Spaniard got a little bit wind underneath his wings and pulled 2 racks in a row from Ouschan. But that was it. Ouschan sealed the deal and won the match 9:5 which secures him a spot among the top 16 players tomorrow. He will face Mieszko Fortunski (POL) at 10:00 CET for a seat in the quarter-finals of this prestigious event.
Maximilian Lechner was also pretty successful today. After losing his first match 8:9 to Mohammad Soufi (SYR), he took the long road over the loser’s side and took down Ivan Galic (CRO) 9:5, Sergio Lagunas Moreno (ESP) 9:4, Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) 9:4, Roman Hybler (CZE) 9:3 and Marcel Willing (AUT) 9:2 one after the other. After this demonstration of stamina, he encountered Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) in the single elimination match. Instead of being tired or exhausted, Lechner ruled the match from the very beginning and never allowed Fischer to find his own way. When he was on the hill with 8 points in his account, the scoreboard still displayed „0“ points for Fischer. The Swede then managed to win four consecutive racks before Lechner closed the book and pocketed the final 9-ball needed to win with an impressive result of 9:4 over his opponent. Lechner will encounter Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) in his next match tomorrow.
Mario He is the third of the Austrian musketeers here in Klagenfurt. After having lost to Petri Makkonen (FIN) 4:9 today, he needed one more victory to join his teammates in the single elimination round of the final 32 players. His opponent was Oliver Ortmann (GER), former World Champion and multiple European Champion. Today, he was no challenge for Mario He. The „Chinese Shooter“ from Austria eliminated Ortmann easily with 9:4. Then, Mario He had to deal with Wojciech Szewczyk (POL). The young Polish provided a tough fight for Mario He and the match looked like Szewczyk would rather take it than He. Szewczyk was on the hill first but he allowed Mario He back to the table so the Austrian was able to tie the match at 8:8. Hill-hill dramas are not unknown to Mario He. However, the ending of this match was more than unfortunate for Szewczyk. He attempted a combination shot with the 3-ball into the 9-ball. He missed it but the 9-ball fell into the pocket on the other side of the table. Szewczyk covered his face and He did not really enjoy his victory in the first place. Anyway, after a few minutes the atmosphere was relaxed again and Mario He was celebrated by his teammates for joining them in the round of the last 16 players tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open will continue at 10:00 local time with matches of the last 16 players single elimination. The Klagenfurt Women’s Open will set sail at 09:00local time with first round matches.
