Thorsten Hohmann is the 2014 Champion of Champions. He is also $25,000 richer.
Hohmann cruised relatively comfortably past Dennis Orcollo in his first match of the day in this four player invitational event, but he was taken to sudden death by Darren Appleton.
Hohmann won the first set of the finals in a 5-4 nailbiter, but Appleton took control of the second set and cruised to a 5-2 win to force one game of sudden death 9-ball for $25,000 in prize money.
Appleton won the lag and it looked like Hohmann might not play into the final game at all as Appleton was running out for the win. Awkward shape on the 7 for Appleton led to a safety and Hohmann got his chance at the table. A long off-angle cut on the 7 led to a thin cut on the 8-ball. Hohmann used the mechanical bridge but made the 8-ball and then the 9-ball for the win.
Coming up on Wednesday is the Ladies Tournament of Champions where Kelly Fisher will face Karen Corr & Allison Fisher takes on Ga-Young Kim with the two winners playing in the finals.
Admission is free for all fans over twenty one years of age at the Harrah's Resort Southern California in Valley Center, California.
