Lewis Jones, Jeremy Jones and Charlie Bryant |
September 19-20th saw 85 players from the region gather at Fast Eddie's Billiards in Waco to compete for the $1750 added Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9 Ball Tour sponsored by Schuler Legacy Cues. As always, it was a tough field and fun.
Top picks for the second October event were, Jeremy Jones, Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant, Jui Lung Chen, Leroy Mathis, James Davis Sr., and Robert Clark.
Finishing in the 13-16th positions were Eric Aicinena, Adam Jones, Bill Anderson, and Gordon Van der Veer. All four played very hard and very well. They each received $145 for their finish.
Ending up in the 9-12th slots were Jui lung Chen, Benny Scott, Travis Gunn, and Chelo Velasquez. For their efforts, they earned $190 each.
The 7-8th finishes were claimed by James Davis Sr. and Nick Hood. Both played very hard and were awarded for their efforts with $445.
Finishing 5-6th were Leroy Mathis and Lance Sullivan. Both played well enough to continue, but sometimes the table dictates differently. They took home $620.
The 4th place finish was claimed by Robert Clark of the Dallas area. Robert played real well and is always a favorite. Robert took home $$900.
Rick Stanley of Austin plays very fast and quite loosely and this weekend was no different while claiming the 3rd place finish. He happily collected $1290 for his fine play.
This set the stage for the finals between Charlie Bryant and Jeremy Jones. Charlie came off a previous win the weekend prior in Lafayette and Jeremy was getting over jet lag as he had just returned from the US Open. These two have gone head to head before and it is always exciting to see the match up.
They had met earlier in the hot seat match with the Hillbilly prevailing. The finals were to be a double race to 9, but the 2nd set would not happen as Hillbilly handled Jeremy 9-4 for his 2nd consecutive win.
Jeremy is one of Texas favorite sons and always a crowd favorite. He has been there before and will be back many times in the future.
The Hillbilly played awesome 9 ball and seems to respond real well to his new Cheerleader and wife, Heather.
Jeremy took home $1810 for his fine 2nd place finish and Heather took home $2720 for Charlie's impressive win.
A big thanks to the General Manager-Fast Eddies, Ray Gonzalez, and his staff for hosting us and doing such a fine job.
Another big thanks as well to Jack Kompan of Mystick Cues, Robbie Timms of “Behind the 8 Ball Cue Sales & Repair and to Paul Summerall of S&S Cues of Lubbock. No event would seem right without our guys.
What more can we say about Olhausen Billiards and Schuler Legacy Cues? Their support and generosity is beyond belief. Thank you so very much.
Lastly, but hardly least, a very special thanks to Fast Eddie's ownership. You have changed pool in Texas.
We approach the end of the year and the Season Finale, but not before our November event in Houston at Fast Eddie's at the South Gulf Freeway location at the Fuqua exit November 10-11. Make plans to attend now.
The year's Season Finale will be held December 1-2 at the N. W. Military location in San Antonio. See y'all there and until then, keep knockin' the backs out of those pockets!
